This Weekend in San Diego County (September 15-16)
Wow! What a busy weekend we have ahead of us in San Diego county! Of course you can start with our local attractions (SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, LegoLand, Balboa Park, Old Town), and it’s not too late to enjoy the beaches, but there’s tons more to do all around the county.
Celebrate Mexican Independence Day at Del Mar Fairgrounds with Festival Del Grito.
A Safari Soiree will be held on Saturday night at the Fallbrook Golf Club, where guests will engage in their own African adventure.
If you need some exercise, why not take part in the 16th Annual San Diego START! Heart Walk, or the Camp Pendleton Heartbreak Ridge Half Marathon , both on Saturday? Would you rather jump on a bike? Pedal to the Park, Tour de San Diego, and the Mission Bay to La Costa Express Ride will all be held on Sunday.
If you’d like a little community flavor, on Saturday Poway celebrates Poway Days complete with pancake breakfast, parade, amusement rides, food and entertainment. Oceanside Harbor Days and Harbor Cruise will include live entertainment, children’s art, pirate ship displays, car show, and sandcastle demonstrations, which continues throughout the weekend. The Lake Murray Street Fair and Community Picnic will feature live music from three bands, crafts, food and entertainment. The highlight of the event will be the 2nd Annual Great Duck Race, which will take place in the middle of the park on Saturday. Last, but not least, Ocean Beach’s Paddlin’ Party and Post-Paddle Party will offer lots of fun on Sunday.
If you like the water, the San Diego Thunderboat Regatta continues through Sunday. If you’re in the market for your next yacht, head to YachtFest ‘07.
Are you a gearhead? The Freedom Ride is a 100-mile ride with motorcycles and classic cars, and the 6th Annual Motorheadmadness.com Classic Car Show will both gear up on Saturday.
We haven’t left out the sports fans. There’s an All-Woman, Full-Contact Football game, as well as a Padres game, on Saturday night. Padres and Chargers games will take place on Sunday. The Spreckels Cup Polo Competition is on Sunday as well.
If you’re a music lover, the Lemon Grove Jazz, Wine and Art Festival will be celebrated on Saturday, and the 37th Annual Julian Bluegrass Festival takes place all weekend. For something a little different, head to the Star of India for a Sea Chantey Festival on Sunday.
Patrons of the arts can enjoy the 2nd Annual University Heights Arts Open all weekend, and Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is again being held in North Park on Saturday and promises a wild night of art and burlesque. There’s a Belly Dancing Festival happening all weekend too.
Saturday is Coastal Cleanup Day, and you can help at more than 60 sites throughout the county.
If you’d rather take care of your home, the Del Mar Fairgrounds will once again welcome the Fall Home & Garden Show all weekend.
If this is all too much for you, and you’d rather just sit inside in the dark, head to the El Cajon Video and Film Festival on Saturday, but for the best laugh you’ll get all week, be at Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay on Sunday night to see funnyman Jim Gaffigan, the palest comedian in the business.
