The San Diego Special Edition - August 20, 2007
Welcome to the August 20, 2007 edition of The San Diego Special Edition. If this is your first time here, I should explain that the “Special Edition” is special because it includes the voices of so many other San Diego bloggers.
An invitation goes out once each month, asking San Diego bloggers and travel writers who write about San Diego to submit links to one of their latest articles about anything in San Diego county. Links to those articles are compiled here, and an article is posted showcasing all of our local talent.
This month we have some new contributors, as well as those who’ve been with us before. I hope you’ll give each of them a read, and hopefully discover something you didn’t know about San Diego, as well as some blogs you might want to bookmark. Enjoy!
arts
Kevin Freitas presents The “New Contemporaries” @ Simayspace - Part I - OR Impressions: soleil couchant à l’ouest posted at Art as Authority. In this article, Freitas sets his critical eye on a group exhibit currently on display at the Art Academy of San Diego.
economy
Dan Melson presents San Diego Real Estate Market Prognosis August 2007 posted at Searchlight Crusade. His thorough analysis of the housing market for San Diego County will help buyers, as well as sellers, understand what they can expect in the current cycle and the near future.
Brian Brady presents More San Diego Businesses To Fail? posted at America’s Mortgage Broker, saying, “I would prefer to write something more rosy but this is pertinent food for thought in San Diego.” In the current market, Brady recommends Home Equity Lines of Credit (HELOCs) for small businesses, and he’ll tell you why.
entertainment
Now that we have business out of the way,
let’s have some fun.
bobbarama presents Something fishy ‘going down’ at Sea World posted at bobbarama.com, saying, “OK … for better or worse (smile) … a little something on the food at Sea World.” This fun San Diego blogs never fails to amuse me. I think you’ll enjoy it.
At Arun is Bringing You…Your Daily Remedy, Arun presents The Great San Diego Walkoff saying, “Now that I had become a San Diego model, it was time to up my game!” His hilarious account of his Zoolander-esq walkoff will bring a smile to your face, and a shimmy to your…whatever.
To this, I’ll add some totally tasteless humor, designed just for the San Diego audience in the form of Barbie, San Diego Edition, posted here at The San Diego Beat.
history
With school starting all over San Diego county, let’s stop in for a little history lesson.
Coronado Bridge Trivia is presented by Steve Johnson at Coronado Island News Blog (eCoronado.com), saying, “We love the Coronado Bridge…and Coronado.” Reading his blog, you’ll understand why.
sports
And now for sports.
Jeff Dowler presents Surfing USA - Well, in Carlsbad and Surrounding Areas posted at active rain. He even includes the requisite Beach Boys video to give you a little taste of the lifestyle. Don’t be such as gaper, a shoobie, a hodad, Jeff! Grab your mal and rip some naked nectar!
Geoff Young visited Cooperstown, N.Y. to see our own Tony Gwynn’s induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He presents Cooperstown Photos posted at Ducksnorts. Isn’t it great to see a hometown hero honored?
travel
Last of all, Jimson Lee presents Traveling Overseas and Saving Money on International Calls posted at Speedendurance.com. What does this have to do with San Diego? He snuck this one in by mentioning Telestial in the article, and as he notes, “Telestial is a San Diego based company…” Well, okay, just this once.
That concludes this edition. I’d like to give heartfelt thanks to each of our contributors this month, who have made this a truly “Special Edition.”
You can submit your blog article to the next edition of The San Diego Special Edition using our carnival submission form. Several articles were received this month that could not be included, because they weren’t about San Diego, so just a reminder: Please make sure that your submission highlights some aspect of San Diego County. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
Technorati tags: the san diego special edition, blog carnival.

Thanks, Evelyn! I can’t wait to read the first edition of your Carnival of Aloha on Labor Day. I’m sure it will be great, and I wish you the very best of luck bringing together all of the Hawaii bloggers into the Aloha spirit.
