Were you there? If so, you may have seen me. I was in a little red strapless sundress, with a matching red hat. If you&#8217;re one of the many men (or the one woman) who sang &#8220;Lady in Red&#8221; to me as I walked by, thanks! If you&#8217;re one of the men who handed me their phone number, I thank you too. You all made my day!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.thesandiegotraveler.com/files/2008/08/aug-257.jpg"><img style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="Aug-257" src="http://www.thesandiegotraveler.com/files/2008/08/aug-257-thumb.jpg" width="244" align="right" border="0"></a> Admittedly, I may have been overdressed. Before leaving for the races, I checked out <a href="http://www.delmarscene.com/fashion/ladies_what_to_wear.htm" target="_blank">&#8220;<em>Fashion tips for women who want to look fabulous at the racetrack&#8221;</em></a> at <a href="http://www.delmarscene.com/" target="_blank">Del Mar Scene</a>, and dressed accordingly. Although I did see some women wearing sundresses, and others wearing hats, there were at least as many in jeans and flip flops. If you go, I&#8217;d say dress however you&#8217;re comfortable.</p>
<p><span id="more-2153"></span></p>
<p><a href="http://www.thesandiegotraveler.com/files/2008/08/aug-245.jpg"><img style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="159" alt="Aug-245" src="http://www.thesandiegotraveler.com/files/2008/08/aug-245-thumb.jpg" width="244" align="left" border="0"></a>It was a gorgeous day to be outdoors, and the people I met were all so nice, I wish I&#8217;d gone more this season.</p>
<p>Although I&#8217;m not much of a gambler, I couldn&#8217;t help but admire how magnificent the horses truly are. Even placing a $2 bet made the races more exciting, and I yelled and cheered as if I had it all on the line. I didn&#8217;t win, but it was fun anyway.</p>
<p>There was a Microbrew Festival in the infield, but plenty of beer being drinken in the stands as well on this hot day. The ice cream was a big seller too. The food stands on the infield were packed after the races, which were followed by a live concert &#8211; but more about that in my next post.</p>
<p>All-in-all a lovely day in Del Mar. </p>
<p>Racing season in Del Mar ends on Wednesday, so if you haven&#8217;t been, you can still catch:</p>
<ul>
<li>Monday, Sept. 1 &#8211; <a href="http://www.delmarscene.com/events/jockey_photo_day.htm" target="_blank">Jockey Photo Day</a></li>
<li>Tuesday, Sept. 2 &#8211; <a href="http://www.dmtc.com/season/events/index.php?day=2008-09-01" target="_blank">Military Appreciation Day</a></li>
<li>Wednesday, Sept. 3 &#8211; <a href="http://www.delmarscene.com/events/party_in_the_paddock.htm" target="_blank">Closing Day Party in the Paddock</a>, and a free concert by <a href="http://www.delmarscene.com/music/englishbeat.htm" target="_blank">The English Beat</a></li>
</ul>
