Long known as a party school, San Diego State University (SDSU) was the target of an undercover drug probe that culminated in the arrest of approximately 100 people, primarily students, today. The arrests were made at several homes and fraternities.

The arrests were made at several homes and fraternities.

Dubbed “Operation: Sudden Fall,” the school was first targeted for investigation as the result of a student’s alcohol and cocaine overdose on Cinco de Mayo last year.

Rather than one large drug operation, the arrests were related to many smaller drug dealers selling a variety of drugs, including marijuana, ecstasy, methamphetamine, cocaine, mushrooms, and other prescription and illicit drugs. Drugs, cash and guns were all seized.

Some of the students arrested were criminal justice majors, notably including one student a month away from a masters degree that would have led to a career with Homeland Security!

The university has been trying to change its “party school” image, and released a statement by SDSU President Stephen Weber, saying,

“SDSU will continue to do what is necessary, through both enforcement and education, to encourage our students to make the responsible choices to ensure the health and safety of our campus community.”

The real surprise in this story is that there is no outcry of surprise from anyone in San Diego. On the contrary, the buzz on the blogs is that this is just long overdue.
