Do Beach and Booze Mix?

For decades a debate has waged over whether or not to allow alcohol on San Diego’s beaches. If you ever watched an episode of Beach Patrol: San Diego, you’d understand why. Drunks seem to take up more of the beach officers’ time than anything else, and the beach brawl last Labor Day didn’t help.
This November, San Diegans will weigh in on how they feel about this issue when it appears on their ballots as Proposition D.

Few Beaches Welcome Smokers

Few Beaches Welcome Smokers

Encinitas recently joined the slew of San Diego cities banning smoking on their beaches. These now include:

Chula Vista
Coronado
Del Mar
El Cajon
Encinitas
Imperial Beach
La Mesa
National City
Oceanside
Poway
San Diego
Solana Beach

These smoking bans are due not only to concern for the effect of second-hand smoke, but the awful litter left by smokers.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems that second-hand smoke follows me around. I end up downwind of smokers at the beach, and worse yet, groups of cigar-smokers at concerts. …read more
