Strawberry Fields Ripe for the Picking

by Carole A. Lane on July 7th, 2007

upickgirl If you haven’t visited Carlsbad’s strawberry fields recently, you’d better hurry.  U-Pick Strawberries, at Cannon Road along the I-5, has been open to the public since mid-April this year, but they will close by the end of July to begin next year’s crop.

For $6 for a small bucket, or $11 for a large bucket, you and your family can handpick your own strawberries from their 80 acres between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily.  This does not represent a great savings over what you’ll pay in the grocery store, but it is fun, and you’re sure that every piece of fruit is perfect.

If you’d rather not pick the strawberries yourself, you can also buy them at the stand alongside the field, as well as these stands:

  • Carlsbad Flower Fields, Palomar Airport and Paseo del Norte
  • Del Mar, at San Dieguito Road and Old El Camino Real
  • Del Mar at Carmel Valley Road and Rancho Santa Fe Farms Road

You can also find local-grown fresh produce, including strawberries and tomatoes at local Farmers’ markets throughout the county.
