San Diego National College Fair
If you’re trying to decide on a college, head right down to the Convention Center this week.
On Wednesday, more than 250 colleges will be represented at the National College Fair being held at the San Diego Convention Center. The institutions include community colleges, career technical training schools, and other two- and four-year institutions located throughout the United States and beyond.
Six to eight thousand people are expected to attend this event, presented by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).
There will be workshops on:
- Selecting a college
- Financial aid
- Historically black colleges and universities
- California public institutions
Not so fast…
Before attending the college fair, the NACAC suggests that you answer these questions:
- Do you want to attend a two- or four-year institution? Co-ed or single sex?
- What size school do you want to attend?
- What programs of study are you considering?
- How far from home do you want to go?
- Do you wish to participate in any specific extra-curricular activities or athletics?
- Do you want to attend a school in an urban, suburban or rural environment?
- Do you require any special services (i.e. tutoring, note takers, readers, TDD or interpreters)?
They tell you to:
- Discuss your college plans with your guidance counselor, family, teachers and friends.
- Research your colleges of interest on the Internet and in your guidance office/library.
- Check dates and registration deadlines for college entrance examinations.
They also suggest that you download a copy of the College Fair Checklist and print as many copies as you like to take with you to the fair. It includes questions you should ask of each college representative in order to make an informed decision.
