San Diego Air Quality

by Carole A. Lane on November 1st, 2007

We’re used to spending much of our time outdoors in San Diego County, and take for granted that the weather will normally cooperate. But what about the air quality?

After spending the last week and a half indoors due to the fires, you may be wondering if it’s safe to go out and play again.

San Diego County’s Air Pollution Control District site has information about the air quality today and tomorrow.

You can also look at AirNow, “a cross-agency U.S. Government” website for San Diego Coast, San Diego Foothills and San Diego Mesa and Inland Valley.

If you’d like to know what toxins are being released by factories, power plants, and other industrial companies, how much smog and soot is in your air, or which air pollutants pose cancer and other health risks around you, you can enter your zip code into Scorecard and find out more about the air is in your community.

2 opinions for San Diego Air Quality

You know what I thought was really interesting? Our weather man asked if we had noticed that our air looked a little foggy. We usually attribute that to vog when the volcanoes are very active. But, he said no, it was coming from the fires in California!!! OMG! So if anyone tells you your air wasn’t that bad, tell them to think again!

Now we have a flash flood warning for all islands until Tuesday so I’m sure our nasal drips will be slowing down very soon! :)

You’ve gotta love the fire fighters. They’re always there and they always seem to be the first responders!

Sorry, Evelyn. I somehow missed your comment.

I know it was smoky around here, but it reached all the way to Hawaii??? Wow! That’s impressive!

I hope your flash flood warning is over now, and that the island is still standing.

And yes, you’re right. We do love our fire fighters. Fires are so common here that we actually have “fire season,”, which reminds us all of how much we rely on these local heroes.
