Run Like a Fool
On April 1st, you can celebrate April Fools Day by running like a fool through the streets of Carlsbad. This is the 22nd anniversary of this event, known as the “World’s Fastest 5K Run.”
The race’s course is very flat and features two miles along the ocean, finishing in downtown Carlsbad.
It starts in the Village at Jefferson and Grand, goes to an ocean-view loop on Carlsbad Boulevard and finishes at Carlsbad Village Drive and State Street.

Prizes
The big prize? $70,000!
Except for the People’s 5K Walk, which is non-competitive, the top three finishers in each race will receive an official award. Team awards include a team plaque and a medal for each member.
The first 250 finishers who cross the finish line in each individual run will receive a commemorative “First 250″ medal.
Awards will also be presented to the company with the greatest number of participants, as well as to the fastest team of city employees (top two times scored), and the city with the most participants.
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will provide an in-house coffee party for the winning company’s participants and the winning city’s participants, including specialty coffee, mochas and lattes.
Who Benefits?
In addition to the benefit of good health for the participants, this race’s proceeds will benefit Carlsbad High School and Kids Are Worth a Million, a fundraising program of the Carlsbad Educational Foundation.
Registration
You can register online to run in the marathon. The first 500 registrants will receive a pair of Spenco sport sandals, courtesy of Spenco Insoles.
Party By The Sea
After the race, relax at the Party by the Sea, featuring live music, dancing, and a beer garden for those 21 and over, featuring a variety of micro-brewed ales. A free Health & Fitness Expo will be featured, including over 70 booths.
If your kids would like to get involved, be sure to sign them up for the Junior Carlsbad, taking place on March 31.
