Rebuilding Vista
Have you driven around Vista lately? Does it seem like they’re rebuilding everything? Well, you’re right, they are!
Vista Civic Center
The City of Vista broke ground on the new City’s Civic Center last week, which will replace the ramshackle 1931 school and trailers that currently houses city hall, replacing them with the beautiful facility below over the next two years.
A virtual tour is available here, and you can read more about this project here.
The lots between the existing city hall and the library have been taken over by construction equipment and temporary buildings, moving the Farmers’ Market to the North County Regional Center.
The Civic Center Park Tennis Courts have been torn down to make room for the construction, as has the Skate Park. In fact, it appears that whole block is under construction.
Brengle Terrace Park & Moonlight Amphitheatre
Nearby, the old Moonlight Amphitheatre in Brengle Terrace Park is being torn down in order to build a new stage and dressing rooms, which will include an electronic rigging system for scenery and equipment, backstage restrooms and dressing rooms, rehearsal room, scene assembly/work shop, costume room, orchestra pit, permanent theatrical equipment infrastructure, and sound, lighting, and video equipment packages. This project should be completed next summer. You can read more about it here.
Meanwhile, the Brengle Terrace tennis courts are also being expanded.
Fire Stations
Two new fire stations are being built:
- Fire Station No. 5 at South Melrose Drive an Green Oak Road
- Fire Station No. 5 at E. Vista Way, between Escondido Ave. and Franklin Lane
You can read more about these here.
Vista Community Sports Park
Grading has begun on the new Sports Park, which will include two synthetic turf soccer/football fields, one pony/colt baseball field, two multi-use ball fields, viewing and picnic areas, a tot lot, and more. This project is not expected to be completed until 2010, but you can read about it here.
What Else?
That’s not nearly all that’s going on in Vista. Check out the City of Vista 2007-2009 Capital Improvement Plan - Unfunded Projects. As you’ll see, the project above as well as many others have now been funded (primarily through Proposition L, a half-cent sales tax increase), and are underway.
If you haven’t been to Vista in a while, you may not recognize it on your next visit!
