Moulin Rouge Comes to San Diego
This weekend’s Art Alive: Paris in the Park Gala promises to be an experience like never before. The gala has been voted one of San Diego’s Top 10 Parties by San Diego Magazine, so you can expect them to outdo themselves once again. Gourmet cuisine, floral-infused cocktails and cool music will bring this French fete to life for a turn-of-the-century party in a Paris discotheque.
The gala is just one part of Art Alive, San Diego Museum of Art’s annual fundraising event (now in it’s 27th year), providing critical financial support for SDMA’s educational outreach programs throughout San Diego County. Other exciting activities, programs, and chic parties are planned throughout the weekend.
Dozens of award-winning floral designers will fill SDMA’s galleries with creative arrangements inspired by artworks from the Museum’s renowned and diverse collection.
Complementing this year’s theme is artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, Jeff Leatham, who will lead the popular floral demonstration, lecture and master class. Following his demonstration will be the Lily Luncheon, where attendees will be treated to a delicious lunch and a spring fashion preview presented by Saks 5th Avenue.
Local award-winning garden writer and horticulturalist, Nan Sterman, will also present French-inspired gardening techniques that can be applied to our lovely climate.
Although the weekend’s events will be pricey, family art workshops will be provided on Saturday and Sunday, with free projects for children and families to enjoy, such as creating flowers from recycled materials, reading nature-inspired stories, and building a paper garden on the walls.
