Local Restaurant Ratings Online

by Carole A. Lane on January 3rd, 2008

f_acard If you’re wondering whether a local restaurant is safe, you can save yourself some pain by first locating them online and reviewing their safety record with the Department of Environmental Health.

When you go to the Department of Environmental Health site, simply enter the name of the restaurant, along with the city or zip code, and press SUBMIT.

You’ll not only be able to review the restaurant’s current grade (an A being the letter you’re hoping for), but also the results of their last three inspections, their score at each inspection, and all major violations. The inspections are based on criteria that include proper storage of food, rodent and pest control and whether workers are using proper hygiene.

If a major violation is cited, you can click on it for a full explanation of what that violation means, and decide whether or not you can trust your health to that establishment.
