Ike Turner, Gone at 76
Whether you loved him or hated him, the rhythm & blues community has lost another icon. Ike Turner passed away in his San Marcos home on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, and is mourned by his family and fans.
Turner’s music spanned half a century, and earned him a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside his ex-wife, Tina. According to the tribute:
Ike Turner had begun as a bandleader and talent scout in the ‘40s for blues and R&B performers. He recorded “Rocket 88,” considered by many the first rock ‘n’ roll recording, under the name of his baritone sax player, Jackie Brenston, in 1951.

For those who would like to do something to remember Turner, the Turner Family asks that in lieu of flowers that you donate to the music department of your local school in memory of Ike’s name so the music lives on. They also ask:
For those of you who would like to extend your arms and embrace the Turner Family and loved ones of Ike with support and love. We have set up a[n] online memorial for you to easily share with Ike’s family and help to provide them comfort in this difficult time.
