Goodbye Frankie - Gone at 25
Frankie Abernathy, the punk rocker that appeared on MTV’s “Real World: San Diego” in 2004, passed away on Saturday at her mother’s home in Wisconsin.
Frankie was known for self-mutilation, for which she received counseling while on the show. She may also be remembered for her love of Hello Kitty and colorful wigs. She was tattooed by her boyfriend, Dave, and left the show about half-way through the season to be with him. Frankie suffered from cystic fibrosis, which is believed to be what took her life, although that news hasn’t been officially released.
If you’d like more information about Frankie, there’s a biography by tv.com, along with some Frankie trivia. MTV wrote about her, including information about services for her, and where fans can send donations in lieu of flowers. Prick Magazine also did a nice little article about her back in May of 2005, complete with some good photos.
Twenty-five years is a very short time to be here, isn’t it?
