Gates and Jobs, Together Again
When Steve Jobs (founder and CEO of Apple) and Bill Gates (founder and Chairman of Microsoft Corp.) appeared together at D5 in Carlsbad this week, even at $4000 a seat, it was a sell-out crowd.
D5 is the fifth year of Wall Street Journal’s “D: All Things Digital” conference, which was held at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara. Other speakers at the Carlsbad event included:
- Google Chairman of the Board and CEO Eric Schmidt
- CBS Corp. President and CEO Les Moonves
- Cisco Systems, Inc. Chairman and CEO John T. Chambers
- “Star Wars” director and Chairman of Lucasfilm Ltd. George Lucas
- News Corp. President and COO Peter Chernin
- Palm Founder Jeff Hawkins
- YouTube co-founders Steven Chen and Chad Hurley.

It’s apparent that neither of these geniuses would be where they are today, if not for the other. If they’re rivals, they both thrive on the competition, and benefit from the synergies they’ve created.

I had no idea they were even talking! Thanks for sharing this, Carole! In the first video the interviewer said, at the end after Steve’s comment about their relationship that she had a tear in her eye… so did I!

You’re welcome, Evelyn! These are some amazing videos, aren’t they? Definitely ones for the time capsule. I think my favorite is the retrospective of them through the years - even a dating game segment that’s a must-see.
Having a DP background, these are icons that I’ve looked up to for as long as I can remember. Seeing them like this together - Wow! I find them each inspiring, but together even more so.
