The recent firestorms in San Diego County have not only hurt families and their homes. They’ve damaged 8,600 acres of farmland, according to Today’s Local News.
Agricultural fire damage estimates have just been released, but these figures are expected to rise.
Avocado growers have been hit particularly hard, with $24.1 million in damages.
Damages to ornamental tree and shrub growers have already reached as high at $7.3 million, followed by cut flowers at $5.2 million and indoor flowers and foliage at $2.1 million.
The lemon crops have suffered a $1.6 million loss.
Poultry and eggs have also been damaged to the extent of $1.2 million.
Experts are predicting a multiyear impact to the local growers, as it will take years before the avocado and lemon trees are regrown and again producing.
