Fight Against Breast Cancer in San Diego
Have you seen the Breast Cancer 3-Day commercials on TV lately? You may be wondering when San Diego will be participating. Well, our turn comes very late in the year - November 21-23 this year, but it’s not too early to register and begin your fundraising efforts.
What is the Breast Cancer 3-Day?
Thousands of women and men come together, each raising at least $2,200 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Then they take their commitment to end breast cancer one step further and walk 60 miles over the course of three days.
To Register
If you’d like to register to walk in the next Breast Cancer 3-Day, go to the Registration Page, and click on the location near you. If you’re in or near San Diego, you can use San Diego’s page.
Donate Now
Walking isn’t the only way that you can participate. You can also donate to other participants. If you don’t know anyone who’s registered, click on Search for a participant, select Home State and click on Find A Participant. You can page through the list of participants to pick one that you want to support.
This Breast Cancer 3-Day is only one of the local events that you can get involved in to fight breast cancer. Several more follow.
Komen San Diego Race for the Cure 5K Run Walk
Our San Diego Susan G. Komen for the Cure affiliate doesn’t just support the Breast Cancer 3-Day. They work all year to raise funds and awareness. Each year the Komen San Diego Race for the Cure® attracts more than 14,000 participants locally and over 1.5 million people participate in a Race for the Cure® event worldwide.
This family friendly 5K run/walk will take place in beautiful Balboa Park. The scenic course is perfect for all ages and fitness levels. After the event, enjoy refreshments, a very informative and dynamic expo with many booths, entertainment, camaraderie, and much more. Each registered participant receives a commemorative Komen San Diego Race for the Cure® T-shirt.
The 12th annual Komen San Diego Race for the Cure will take place on Sunday, November 2 this year. You can register to participate in this race (by arriving early on race day or registering online closer to race day). Volunteers can also register online, but not yet; check later in the year. You can also donate to support a participant, or donate to this event to help support the search for the cure.
Sleep In for the Cure
If you’d much rather sleep in on the day of the race, you can simply pay the registration fee and select "I’ll Sleep In for the Cure." You can pick up your Race T-Shirt at the pre-registration event on October 28.
Row for the Cure
On Saturday, February 23 the Row for the Cure event will take place from North Ski Beach to Mission Bay. This event was rescheduled to this date due to the wildfires last October. For more information contact Pattie Pinkerton at 858-337-9344 or ppinkerton@ucsd.edu
Get Involved!
Susan G. Komen for the Cure is about people - people who choose to do something to make a difference. Now you can get involved by using your voice to affect the political process – or by volunteering at an event or in the office.
Using your political clout!
Komen for the Cure established Komen Champions for the Cure™ as a structured grassroots public policy program designed to educate Congress, the President, policy makers, and the public about what they can do to make a difference in breast cancer policy.
Komen Champions for the Cure™ was inspired by the more than 75,000 Komen volunteers working in their local communities with policy makers and other community leaders, and with their state health departments. Komen works to influence public policy-makers at the federal, state and local levels to increase public investment in quality breast health and breast cancer care.
