EarthFair 2007
On April 22, the the world’s largest annual environmental fair and Earth Day celebration will take place in Balboa Park. This is the18th annual EarthFair, with around 60,000 visitors expected to attend.
Exhibitors and Exhibits
This year’s EarthFair features over 200 exhibitors from such diverse groups as Cali Bamboo, California State Parks, Christian Vegetarian Association, Mountain Empire Worm Products, San Diego Animal Rescue and The Camping Bares.
If you’re building a new home, or would like to make your current home more energy efficient or enviro-friendly, be sure to visit eHome. This exhibit showcases products and technologies for better homes.
The eARTH Gallery, an art exhibit made out of recycled materials, will depict endangered species in San Diego County.
Entertainment
In the Children’s Activity Area you’ll find crafts, games, face painting, and story telling. The Children’s Stage will feature earth-centric performances appropriate for children throughout the day.
Three other stages will feature music by local artists.
The last stage will host the “Wizard of Water” show, a water education event including magic, music and dance.
The Children’s Earth Parade will start at 10:30 a.m., featuring participants dressed up as endangered species, presenting earth-friendly messages, and using all kinds of alternatively powered vehicles. Any group with at least three children under the age of 18 can participate by filling out an entry form either online or in person before the parade.
Following the Children’s parade, the Cleaner Car Caravan will include all types of vehicles that run on alternative fuels (hybrids included).
Food
In keeping with the environmental theme, the food pavilion will offer a healthy variety of vegetarian delights.
Volunteers Needed
There are about 400 volunteers needed to run EarthFair every year, demonstrating San Diego’s commitment to a better planet. If you’d like to demonstrate your commitment, and haven’t volunteered at EarthFair in the last five years, you’ll need to attend volunteer training this Saturday, April 14 or next Friday, April 20. See EarthFair Volunteering for additional information about volunteer training and volunteer opportunities.
This year’s theme is “Cool the Earth,” so come to EarthFair and have a totally cool day.

To bad the vegetarian food offer was close to none, lots and lots of beef hamburgers and hot dogs though, so sad.
“It takes up to 10 pounds of grain to produce just one pound of meat. In the US, we feed more than 70 percent of the grains and cereals we grow to farmed animals, only a fraction of which is actually converted into the meat that people eat. The world’s cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people — more than the entire human population on Earth”.

I’m so sorry to hear that Gabi. The one day you’d expect to have no trouble finding good vegetarian food, and they blew it?
