Building Blitz This Week
Have you ever built a home in a week? Home Builders Blitz 2008 is an exciting opportunity for Habitat for Humanity affiliates and professional builders to partner to build homes across the nation in one week!!
San Diego Habitat for Humanity has announced that in 2008 there are home ownership opportunities for 11 condominiums in Carlsbad, 4 homes in El Cajon, 1 home in Vista, 8 townhouses and 3 homes in National City and 20 homes in Oceanside. They plan to blitz a minimum of 10 houses this week at their Libby Lake Village project in Oceanside.
How Can You Help?
Volunteers may volunteer as little or as much as they wish. There is no minimum requirement for volunteering, although some administrative tasks and committees may have their own time requirements.
You can help by volunteering in the following areas:
· Construction sites
· ReStore
· Family Services
· Office needs and administrative duties
· Event Committee
· Newsletter Committee
· Grant writing assistance
To volunteer on the build sites, please call the volunteer coordinator Carolyn Bollman at 619-283-4663 ext. 316 or email carolynb@sdhfh.org to answer questions or schedule a volunteer date. Volunteers must be scheduled in advance of any work date. To inquire about corporate team building opportunities, please call Elizabeth Neubrand 619-283-4663 ext 317.
Women Build (a partner of Habitat for Humanity) is also recruiting volunteers for upcoming projects through the website.
Of course, you can also raise funds to help build more homes.
How Can You Qualify For a Habitat Home?
The Family Selection Committee is responsible for assessing and interviewing prospective families for new homes. All applicants must meet the following three basic criteria.
- Need for improved housing
- Willingness to partner with San Diego Habitat for Humanity
- Ability to pay a monthly mortgage payment
If you meet these criteria, you’ll need to start by attending an orientation meeting, learning more about the Habitat for Humanity process, and picking up an application.
