Breakdancing in San Diego
I thought we all could use a little break…dance, that is. So here’s a little breakdancing, San Diego style.
If you’d like to see more, visit the Breakdancing Channel. It’s all breakdancing, all the time.
What? You say you want to learn to break? Well, you can head to the Thursday Night Thing (TNT) at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD). Something “different and interesting” happens there each month, including DJ’s, poetry readings, live bands, artist talks, video productions and breakdancing lessons. TNT takes place on the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. It’s free for members of the museum, and a $3 donation is suggested from non-members.
Dance studios and community organizations around the county also offer hip hop lessons, which include breakdancing. If you’re over 11, telling ”b-boys” and “b-girls” (breakdancers) that you’re taking these lessons could get you ridiculed, and possibly beaten up. Keep it to yourself until you’ve got some moves.
