Blade Runner Celebrates 25th Anniversary in San Diego

by Carole A. Lane on September 12th, 2007

Ridley ScottDirector Ridley Scott and many of the stars of Blade Runner came to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the film, as well as the DVD release, with their loyal fans at Comic-Con this year. No, sadly not Harrison Ford or Rutger Howard, Edward James Olmos or Darryl Hannah.  We were, however, treated to Joanna Cassidysome special time in front of Sean Young, James Hong, Joanna Cassidy, and Joe Turkel, as well as Visual Futurist Syd Mead and Production Designer Lawrence G. Paull, among others.

Warner Bros. Home Video is releasing the 5-disc set of Blade Runner: Final Cut with five versions of the film on DVD. The film is fully restored, and includes Scott’s final cut, as well as his work print.

Also included is a 3 1/2 hr. Sean Youngdocumentary Dangerous Days: The Making of Blade Runner for which they interviewed about 80 people. They even did a tiny bit of a re-shoot in which Zhora (Joanna Cassidy’s character) runs through panes of glass. It was originally an obvious stunt double, but has now been re-shot with Cassidy. They tweaked a couple of other shots as well. There are also 47 minutes of deleted scenes included in the DVD set.

Ridley Scott and the other panelists took questions from the audience, which were videoed by a fan and have since appeared on YouTube:

James HongMy favorite panelist was definitely James Hong (aka David Lo Pan). He asks for any writers out there to write the sequel Big Trouble in Little China 2, and says he’s still looking for a girl with green eyes. He also encouraged us all to see Balls of Fury.
