Behind the Scenes of One Missed Call
Edward Burns and Shannyn Sossamon came to Comic-Con this year to promote their new thriller, One Missed Call. This story was originally based on a novel and told in a Japanese film, Chakushin ari, which later had a sequel Chakushin ari 2. Neither Sossamon nor Burns have seen these films, because their director, Eric Valette, asked them not to, so they really couldn’t compare this American remake to the original.
Burns explained that in One Missed Call an evil spirit is traveling through cell phones. People start receiving voicemails from their future selves, and when they listen to the messages, they hear details of their own deaths. The sister of Burns’ character is the first victim. Sossamon plays Beth, whose friend is the second victim.
Here’s a small teaser trailer (although nothing like what we saw at Comic-Con, which was far more frightening):
Sossamon was asked about her appearance on Mr. Show, but she disappointed that part of her fan-base when she said that she doesn’t really remember her appearance. It was just a day’s work.
Burns was then asked about the possibility of a Confidence sequel. He said that there was talk about a sequel, “but then the movie came out, and like most of the films I’m in, it died at the box office, and that put an end to that sequel, and a few other sequels that have been mentioned with me.”
The biggest crowd pleaser that these two managed was to give out iPhones to the audience members whose questions were taken. Needless to say, that was a BIG hit, especially since most other films being promoted gave out pretty lame t-shirts or nothing at all.
One Missed Call is due in theaters January 4, 2008.
