A Day at the Races
I went to the Del Mar Races yesterday. Were you there? If so, you may have seen me. I was in a little red strapless sundress, with a matching red hat. If you’re one of the many men (or the one woman) who sang “Lady in Red” to me as I walked by, thanks! If you’re one of the men who handed me their phone number, I thank you too. You all made my day!
Admittedly, I may have been overdressed. Before leaving for the races, I checked out “Fashion tips for women who want to look fabulous at the racetrack” at Del Mar Scene, and dressed accordingly. Although I did see some women wearing sundresses, and others wearing hats, there were at least as many in jeans and flip flops. If you go, I’d say dress however you’re comfortable.
It was a gorgeous day to be outdoors, and the people I met were all so nice, I wish I’d gone more this season.
Although I’m not much of a gambler, I couldn’t help but admire how magnificent the horses truly are. Even placing a $2 bet made the races more exciting, and I yelled and cheered as if I had it all on the line. I didn’t win, but it was fun anyway.
There was a Microbrew Festival in the infield, but plenty of beer being drinken in the stands as well on this hot day. The ice cream was a big seller too. The food stands on the infield were packed after the races, which were followed by a live concert - but more about that in my next post.
All-in-all a lovely day in Del Mar.
Racing season in Del Mar ends on Wednesday, so if you haven’t been, you can still catch:
- Monday, Sept. 1 - Jockey Photo Day
- Tuesday, Sept. 2 - Military Appreciation Day
- Wednesday, Sept. 3 - Closing Day Party in the Paddock, and a free concert by The English Beat
Where the Turf Meets the Surf in Del Mar.
