2nd Annual World Water Day Festival
It would be very difficult to overstate the importance of water to San Diego or the region. Indeed, we owe it not only our recreation and tourism dollars, but our very survival. You can learn more at World Water Day tomorrow, at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon Discovery Center.
Demonstrations and booths will include:
- Hubbs-Seaworld Fish Hatchery
- Water cycle and bracelets
- Wastewater Treatment Plant Model
- California Native Plants
- Endangered Frogs and Amphibians
- Desalination
- Oil Spill and cleanup demonstration
- Lagoon and estuary water quality testing experiments
They promise a fun event for the whole family, with a magic show, touch tanks filled with lagoon and ocean critters, and a red-tail hawk show. Go and help "Dr. Ann Phibian" from the San Diego Zoo search for missing frogs or make a rainstick at the Children’s Crafts booth.
What is World Water Day?
According to the World Water Day site:
"World Water Day is an international day of observance and action to draw attention to the plight of the more than 1 billion people world wide that lack access to clean, safe drinking water. Celebrated since 1993, World Water Day was designated in 1992 when the United Nations (UN) General Assembly passed a resolution. With each passing year, the observance has grown larger and stronger."
