The 32nd Annual World Bodysurfing Championships will be held this weekend (August 23-24) adjacent to the pier in Oceanside. Approximately 350-400 bodysurfers from around the world will compete in their respective age divisions for trophies and prizes.

The contest is projected to start at 6:30 am each morning with age competition taking place as noted on the Heat Schedule. The Men and Women’s Grand Champions will be crowned on Sunday afternoon.

Summergrass San Diego is once again coming to the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum in Vista.
Summergrass includes three days of live music from 12 international, national, regional and local bands, music workshops presented by the performing artists, a variety of special family and kid-oriented music activities, lots of spontaneous live jam sessions, instrument raffles, tasty food and a variety of vendors.
This Year’s Featured Lineup: Don Rigsby and Midnight Call, The Infamous Stringdusters, Bluegrass Etc., Sawmill Road, Chris Stuart and Backcountry, Burnett Family, Grateful Hooligans, Highway 76, Lighthouse, Pacific Ocean Bluegrass, Superstrings and the Virtual Strangers!

San Diego Polo Club will host the first “Boots and Bolos” Western Party on Friday, August 29th.
Boots and Bolos is the celebrity charitable kickoff to the Spreckels Cup, one of the oldest and most prestigious events in all of polo.
This fun evening will include a saloon and casino, live music, dancing, and a silent charitable auction. A classic San Diego BBQ will be included free with admission.

San Diegans are joining forces for a green cause. On Tuesday, August 19, the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE) is hosting the 2008 Sustainability Fair, which will feature vendor displays and workshops, providing the latest technology and information in sustainable energy, water use, recycling and waste management.

I love going to the movies. I especially enjoy the Krikorian Metroplex 15 in Vista. It’s convenient and clean, and the people who work there have always been cordial to me and my family. The local animal shelters are currently overrun with animals (particularly cats and kittens), so they’re offering some great deals. Until the end of the month, the Department of Animal Services will waive all adoption fees for cats 6 months or older, and dogs 5 years or older, as well as any cat or dog that has been at the shelter for 30 days.
