The San Diego Special Edition – July 18, 2008

San Diego State University Welcome SignWelcome to the July 2008 issue of The San Diego Special Edition! Summer is a great time to celebrate living here in San Diego county, and these articles remind me of many of the things I love about living here. I hope you enjoy them, and a terrific sampling of our local bloggers. What a talented group!

business

Sold!Let’s start this edition with a humorous, yet informative look at real estate, with Dan Melson’s article Top Ten Reasons You Bought The Wrong House posted at Dan Melson’s La Mesa Real Estate and Mortgage Website. Great information, as always, Dan!

Crystal Ball take #3economy

Continuing in the real estate vein, Kelly Bennett presents A Market Here, a Market There and Two Years in Between posted at Survival in San Diego :: voiceofsandiego.org. It’s interesting to consider how our economy might be mirrored elsewhere, and how we might use information such as this to predict the future of our local economy.

A Paradise Guarded by the Tides is posted at OB Rag Blog by Patty Jones, and this is not only an EXCELLENT article about a little-known treasure in our backyards, but the photos are a must-see. Be sure to click on each photograph for a larger view.

food

Of course, if it’s pictures you like, Caron DSC07857.JPGGolden’s are enough to make your mouth water, as she presents Pata Negra: The Beautiful Black Pig of PB posted at San Diego Foodstuff. As she describes her blog,

“San Diego Foodstuff covers the market scene and more in San Diego. Together we’ll discover the makings of a great meal!”

Yum!

other

BargainNow that you’re ready to do some cooking, Melissa Hedwall presents How to Save 50-70% At The Supermarket Realistically posted at Oh! San Diego, saying,

“Welcome to the wonderful world of saving 50-75% off your normal grocery and household item bill! Most of the stuff listed here I learned from my beautiful mother. A lot of it was taught to my by great folks out there on the web. I’ve decided to make my own list.”

I’ll definitely be using Melissa’s excellent tips on my next trip to the market, as well as the money-saving websites she shared.

No Dog Pooppolitics

You might not think pups would push such a political button, but judging from the comments on Known as Ben’s post The to-do over do-do at Fear and Loathing on Golden Hill, there are definitely some polarizing views on this one. Why not head over to read his post, and add a comment if you’d like to weigh in with your opinion?

cinderella carriagesan diego

Princess for a Day in San Diego is posted at Being Savvy by Jenny Ciampa, who provides some great ideas for spoiling our little princesses. Of course, some of us might never outgrow our princess stage, and a day out like she outlines still sounds like a Ferris Wheel With Fireworksgreat time to me.

I love the next story from Steve at BinaryWolf. His post Serendipity at the County Fair illustrates one of the things I love about living here – the people are SO NICE!

Mark A. Dodge Medlin presents Any RR021966way you want it posted at The Occasional Odd Crop, which he describes as,

“A photo from Hillcrest and a few paragraphs about classic-rock concerts, tied together by the title of a Journey song.”

That about says it. Thanks, Mark.

Golf 10sports

Although not actually in San Diego county, MoneyNing writes about one of our close neighboring communities, San Clemente, presenting Shorecliffs Golf Club Front 9, posted at OC Golf Course. This post is described as,

“A good look at a golf course close to San Diego for those that want to drive up!”

travel

Surfer Girl paddling out“Sometimes, when we get stuck in our daily routines here in San Diego, we forget how special of a place we live in. Enjoy these quotes from travelers who remind us what makes this place so special.”

This is how Tim Schenck describes his post Comments on San Diego #2 from The Best Places In San Diego! It’s comments like these that make everyone want to move here. (Shame on you, Tim!)

San Diego SkylineThese are all such great articles that I have little to add, so I’ll just submit This Week’s Featured Photos from a couple of week’s ago at The San Diego Traveler. These pictures of San Diego just deserve another round of applause.

That concludes this edition. I hope you enjoy visiting all of these blogs, and bookmark the ones you like for return visits. You can submit your blog article to the next edition of The San Diego Special Edition using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.

I think many people might have purchased the wrong house. Things will get better though

I think you’re right. These things go in cycles, and we’ll just have to wait this one out.
