Getting MADD Before Prom

Getting MADD Before Prom

Just in time for this weekend’s prom at the House of Blues, a tangible warning to the students of Guajome Park Academy was placed the traffic circle in front of their Fitness Center and gym this week.
Donated by Rancho Del Oro Towing, a severely damaged Dodge Intrepid sits ominously vacant and ready to be hauled away, leaving students to wonder if anyone could have walked away from the accident that damaged it. A banner stretches across its side with a caution from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving):
Don’t Drink and Drive

Let’s hope that this lesson is one they won’t …read more

Cats – They’re Back!

Cats – They’re Back!

“Midnight. Not a sound from the pavement. Suddenly an explosion of music and lights reveals a larger than life junkyard. Probing car lights tear across the darkened landscape of bottles and boxes, briefly catching the darting image of a running feline. Tonight is the one special night each year when the tribe of Jellicle Cats reunites to celebrate who they are. This is the story of CATS.”

On May 11, 1981, CATS opened at the New London Theatre in the West End. Eight years later it celebrated its first important milestone: after 3,358 performances CATS became the longest running musical …read more

Hotels for Comic-Con

Hotels for Comic-Con

If you’ll be coming to Comic-Con International this summer, you may be wondering where you’ll find the best hotel deals. Well, the fine folks at CCI have posted a list of local hotels, along with any special rates for Comic-Con attendees on their Hotels-at-a-Glance Chart.
They’ve also started a “Staying in San Diego” blog, where you’ll find further information and updates. They are working with Travel Planners (a travel agency) to keep abreast of rooms available near the Convention Center, and you can post your comments and questions there as well.
My advice: Don’t wait. Book your room before they’re all …read more

The Jacarandas Are in Bloom

The Jacarandas Are in Bloom

As sure a sign of summer as you’ll find in San Diego county, the Jacarandas are preening, showing off their abundant blossoms in dramatic style.
These gorgeous lavender trees are native to South and Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean, but can be found throughout the world, including all over San Diego county. They’re a welcome site, so long as you don’t park underneath one in bloom. The petals are sticky and difficult to clean off of a car.
Oh well, divas like these are always a bit of trouble, but well worth it. Right?
