Help a Fairy Godmother
Before the prom, teenage girls have some large challenges ahead of them. Not only do they have to acquire that all-important invitation from the “right guy,” they next have to find the “right dress” and accessories for the big night.
Add to that mounting end-of-year schoolwork, a few stray hormones, college applications, and a lack of funds, and you’ve got teenage pressure-cookers about to explode.
Enter the Fairy Godmothers
The lovely ladies of Soroptimist International of Valley de Oro run Operation Fairy Godmother. They gather new and gently used prom gowns and formalwear all year long, both from individuals and from local stores. Before prom, they bestow these gifts on as many under-funded San Diego teens as possible, transforming them into the princesses of their dreams.
To Donate
If you have a prom dress, bridesmaid gown, formalwear, or accessories that you’re no longer using, why not donate them? There’s a special need for plus-size dresses, but all sizes are welcome, so check your closet and see if there’s one you can part with.

Need a Fairy Godmother?
If you need a gown for your prom and can’t afford one, head to Alvarado Hospital conference room on Saturday, April 26th between 10am and 6pm. Bring your high school I.D. card and you can select from hundreds of gowns. Thanks to these Fairy Godmothers, more San Diego teens can make prom memories to last a lifetime.
