San Diegans Lost in Iraq War Mourned

War Protest; Photo by Brad PennockToday marks five years of war, with no end in sight.

Nearly 4,000 Americans have died in the war in Iraq.  Three-hundred, thirty of them were from Camp Pendleton in Oceanside.  Another ten from Miramar Marine Corps Air Station.

Today San Diegans mourn these local heroes, as well as other friends and family members now gone.

The North County Times reports that some 11,000 Camp Pendleton and Miramar troops remain in Iraq today.

Demonstrations have been held around the county for months and years protesting the war and/or supporting the troops. These are not mutually exclusive principles.

Members of both parties are now asking for the exit strategy, while we all pray for the safety of our military, our country, our world.

Five years.

    Carol,
My thoughts are with you. Having just retired from 20 years in the Canadian Navy, and having served beside many US troops, in Afghanistan and the first Gulf War, I know where your feelings are coming from.

    Ken
