Herb Festival and Tomatomania

Quail Botanical Gardens 012; Photo by bjhanifinQuail Botanical Gardens will celebrate spring this weekend with the 11th Annual Herb Festival, Spring Plant Sale and Tomatomania.

This year they will fly in Lucinda Hutson from Austin, Texas, to help celebrate. Hutson is the author of The Herb Garden Cookbook and Tequila! Cooking with the Spirit of Mexico. A nationally celebrated lecturer, renowned organic gardener and designer, radio and television personality, and culinary consultant, Hutson will give a talk for us on both days at 2:30 pm.

Janell Cannon, author-illustrator of the award-winning and beloved bestseller, Stellaluna will be there at 11am on Saturday to read Little Yau and Trupp, part of her Fuzzhead series. In the story, Little Yau is learning to become an herbalist, a very appropriate theme for this celebration. Following the reading, there will be Fuzzhead and herb-related crafts for the children.

Guided tours of the herb gardens, speakers on garden and herb-related topics such as Andy Lopez, a.k.a. the “Invisible Gardener,” the Herb Festival Marketplace, the A-Z of Herbs information booths, and the QBG Spring Plant Sale will all add to the weekend’s festivities.
