Surf’s Up!

The Santa Ana’s are bringing the extreme waves south, to the delight of San Diego surfers, but these are not the waves for novices.

Ocean Beach and Pacific Beach are currently receiving the biggest surf we’ve seen in years – 10-12 feet this morning in Ocean Beach and an estimated 15 feet in Pacific Beach (or the height of a tw0-story building). The surf is expected to peak today, but the National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory between noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

This is a great time to head down to the beach to take pictures and video, but swimmers and surfers should be warned – riptides are expected, making it difficult or even impossible to get back to shore. The lifeguard stations are staffing up.
