Polar Bear Swim
Would you like to start 2008 with a big splash? At 10am on New Year’s Day, join the annual polar bear swim at La Jolla Shores Kellogg Park, hosted by the La Jolla Cove Swim Club.
About 200 swimmers, some in wetsuits, some not, will wade down to La Jolla Shores Kellogg Park & brave the cold water. There will be a hot chili potluck feast, Starbuck’s, cocoa & apple cider awaiting the swimmers when they finish. You are encouraged to bring your favorite hot dish.
Veteran open-water swimmers will swim as far as two miles & beginning swimmers are encouraged to limit their swimming distance. A kayak support crew will be in the water & a lifeguard on a Jet Ski is expected to patroll the water as well.
