No Stadium for Oceanside

Chargers Logo After discussing the latest marketing study released by the Chargers, Oceanside City Council met in a closed session on Wednesday and decided not to continue stadium talks with the Chargers.

Chula Vista is now the last city in San Diego County that is hoping to build the new stadium, since National City and Oceanside have both dropped out. There is still a chance that something will be worked out to rebuild Qualcomm Stadium on its current site, but the city of San Diego has no money for such a project, so it would all depend on some very imaginative financing.

At this point, Chula Vista is the front runner, with two potential sites - one near San Diego Bay and the other on Chula Vista’s east side.

We said this all along- this ‘deal’ simply would never pencil out as a ‘privately’ financed stadium idea.

You were so right, Mandy. Do you think that it will really happen in Chula Vista, or are they going to run up against the same money problem? Is it really inevitable that the Chargers will leave the county?
