This Weekend in San Diego County (September 29-30)

This weekend, we’ll say goodbye to September, but it’s not going out with a whimper. In addition to the local attractions (SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, LegoLand, Balboa Park, Old Town), there’s an unbelievable variety of events going on around the county all weekend!

The Ghost Whisperer’s Visit to San Diego

The Ghost Whisperer’s Visit to San Diego

Jennifer Love Hewitt has such an endearing presence. It would be a real challenge not to like her. In person, she seems more mature, more confident than I anticipated, but every bit as charming as any of the many roles I’ve seen her play. She came to Comic-Con to talk about the new season of her supernatural series Ghost Whisperer.
Hewitt’s character, Melinda Gordon, started out light and somewhat comical, as we were first introduced to her and her adoring husband, Jim Clancy (played by David Conrad). It wasn’t long before the ghosts that Melinda helps became scary and threatening, and the plot lines much darker.

Working Mother magazine has again named Scripps Health one of the best employers in the country for working mothers, as part of their “100 Best Companies” list.
Scripps was praised for a “flextime” program used by one-quarter of its 9,752 employees (7,502 of which are women) in their five local hospitals. In addition, employees receive benefits if they work at least 18 hours a week.  Two on-site child-care centers with discounted fees also help parents balance work and family responsibilities.

This Weekend in San Diego County (September 22-23)

This Weekend in San Diego County (September 22-23)

Are you looking for some fun this weekend? Of course you can start with our local attractions (SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, LegoLand, Balboa Park, Old Town), but that’s not all that the county has to offer.
“Street Scene” can hardly be called that, since it’s being held at the Coors Amphitheatre, but head down to Chula Vista for non-stop music and entertainment all weekend. If you’d rather party in North County, Encinitas is holding the 13th Annual Oktoberfest while Oceanside enjoys KIFM’s Jazz at the Beach, both on Sunday.

San Diego Supports Same Sex Marriage

San Diego Supports Same Sex Marriage

Nearly 62,000 San Diegans are part of households led by a same-sex couple, according to a U.S. Census Bureau survey conducted two years ago (as reported by the San Diego Union Tribune). So what does this mean to San Diegans? Am I really saying that everyone in San Diego county supports same sex marriage? No, but  please read on.
Between February 12 and March 11, 2004, the newly-elected mayor of San Francisco, Gavin Newsom, issued a directive to the city-county clerk to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, who were then allowed to marry. The weddings were halted on March 11, 2004 by the …read more

Eureka in San Diego

Eureka in San Diego

When I found out the stars from Eureka were coming to Comic-Con this year, I was thrilled. I’m not a huge SciFi fan (or at least I wasn’t a year or two ago), but since I got a DVR, several new series have come into my life that I’m addicted to, and Eureka was one of the first.
If you aren’t yet a fan of this SciFi Channel series, it’s about a “typical” small town named Eureka, which is actually a community of geniuses assembled by the government to conduct top-secret research. Just about everyone in town, from the auto mechanic to the church organist, …read more
