Edward Burns and Shannyn Sossamon came to Comic-Con this year to promote their new thriller, One Missed Call. This story was originally based on a novel  and told in a Japanese film, Chakushin ari, which later had a sequel Chakushin ari 2. Neither Sossamon nor Burns have seen these films, because their director, Eric Valette, asked them not to, so they really couldn’t compare this American remake to the original.

This week’s Carnival of Cities starts in lovely Hawaii with our host, Evelyn in Homespun Honolulu. Evelyn’s article, “Shall We Talk About the Weather?”  leaves me very worried about our good friend in the path of Hurricane Flossie. Be careful, Evelyn, and be sure to post an update letting us know you’re okay.
Each of the articles in this week’s carnival is a good read in it’s own right, but as usual, I have favorites. So, under no authority whatsoever, I’m giving the following awards:

Get Smart stars Steve Carell as Maxwell Smart. That’s perfect casting, isn’t it? I’m less sure of Alan Arkin as The Chief,  and even less of Anne Hathaway as Agent 99, but it would be impossible to improve on the originals for any of these key roles.

Solana Beach Little League made it all the way to the West Regional final in San Bernardino last night. They were one game away from the Little League World Series when they lost to Chandler National (Arizona) 3-7.
Despite the loss, they made Solana Beach and all of San Diego County very proud, and their 2nd place trophy will be displayed in Solana Beach City Hall.

Friday, July 27 was the second official day of Comic-Con 2007 and it was jam-packed with excitement. The costumes were excellent, and the stars were in attendance for screening, autographs and press opportunities.

It looks like a less eventful weekend in San Diego County, but that doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to do. In addition to the usual attractions (SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, LegoLand, Balboa Park, Old Town, the beach), the State Champion Solana Beach Little League will face off against Chandler, Arizona on Saturday night, and the game will be televised on ESPN! The winner will go to the Little League World Series, so San Diego County is really cheering for their little champs.

When director Darren Lynn Bousman and producer Mark Burg came to San Diego’s Comic-Con this year, they intended to show the first five minutes of Saw IV. Unfortunately, the powers that be at the -Con said no; it was simply too intense.

If you come down to Balboa Park this weekend, you’ll be treated to a showcase of traditional performing arts from the Philippines at the annual Philippine Cultural Arts Festival. This event is organized by the SAMAHAN Philippine Dance Company.
