Homespun Hawaii Host to Global Carnival
This week’s Carnival of Cities starts in lovely Hawaii with our host, Evelyn in Homespun Honolulu. Evelyn’s article, “Shall We Talk About the Weather?” leaves me very worried about our good friend in the path of Hurricane Flossie. Be careful, Evelyn, and be sure to post an update letting us know you’re okay.
Each of the articles in this week’s carnival is a good read in it’s own right, but as usual, I have favorites. So, under no authority whatsoever, I’m giving the following awards:
- Most Visually Pleasing Blog goes to Kailani at An Island Life , whose entry It’s Obon Season in Hawaii provides a wonderful description of the island traditions, as well as a terrific video to put us all in the mood for a celebration.
- Article Most in Need of Pictures: Deepak Jeswal writes about Aligarh in India via the post at Random Expressions, and the descriptive text definitely left me wanting to see it for myself.
- Party I’d most like to Attend goes to Labor Day Weekend & Bumbershoot in Seattle! by Mary Jo at The Seattle Traveler.
Of course, I recommend that you go to Homespun Honolulu to read all of the articles (including mine).
If you write a blog about your city (or your travels), submit your own entry to the next edition, which will be hosted by Doc’s Place. To see past and future Carnivals of Cities, go to Home Turf Media’s Carnival site.
If you write about San Diego, you are also invited to participate in The San Diego Special Edition, a monthly blog carnival all about San Diego.

Thank you, Carole! I appreciate the concern for sure, but it looks like little Miss Flossie is not only following the predicted track but she has also started to weaken since last night. Currently, Flossie is still a hurricane but has been downgraded from a 4 to a 3 and now to a 2. They are predicting that it will remain a category 2 hurricane until it passes us by, just South of the Islands. The poor Big Island had to deal with an earthquake last night too! The only reported damage was the ceiling of one of the stores. They are going to have a bad day of rain, wind and a lot of surf. That’s one of those rare times when “surf” is actually a bad word. On the Big Island, schools are closed as are two of the Banks and one of the shopping malls. Honolulu and the rest of the State continue with business as usual but only with guarded confidence until Thursday. Do I really have to carry an umbrella?!?
Thanks for the update, Evelyn. I’m so glad that Flossie is not going to hit you. I guess even living in paradise has its downside. Take care of yourself, and GOOD JOB WITH YOUR FIRST CARNIVAL! (I knew you could do it.) Hooray for Evelyn!
