Beowulf Public Art Project
Across the street from the San Diego Convention Center, there’s been an amazing piece of public artwork happening before our eyes all through Comic-Con.
The upcoming Paramount film, Beowulf, was heavily promoted at the -Con, with previews, a panel discussion with the writers of the adaptation, Neil Gaiman and Roger Avery, autograph signings, and t-shirt giveaways, but the most unique promotion was the 3-D sidewalk drawing below the huge poster facing the Convention Center. At first glance, the poster was frightening enough, but visitors who took the time to look through the 3-D lens were treated to an even more frightening eyeful of the poster, and the sidewalk drawing beneath it virtually coming to life, and death, at the hand of accomplished international artist, Kurt Wenner. I wish that I could fully convey the terror that was created here, but the artwork was skilled and inspiring, and the butchery horrifying. They certainly picked the right audience when they chose Comic-Con for all of this attention.
