San Diego Loves Dance!

San Diego Loves Dance!

I know that America loves American Idol, but personally, I’m addicted to the dance shows.  I don’t really know why Dancing with the Stars (DAWS) and So You Think You Can Dance are each so captivating, but something about watching the dancers’ progress from stumbling about to polished ballroom professionals just gets to me, and I’m not alone.

Calling All San Diego Bloggers

Calling All San Diego Bloggers

Hosting last week’s Carnival of Cities was so much fun, I went looking for a San Diego Carnival, and guess what – We didn’t have one!  How could that be?  America’s Finest City without a blog carnival of our own?
Well, we do now!

The Top 5 Writing Project

The Top 5 Writing Project

Last week, I participated in Problogger’s most recent writing project, the “Top 5.”  This was a fun topic, and easy to adapt to so many subjects.
In my case, it inspired the article, “The Top 5 Reasons Chocolate Lovers Love San Diego,” which turned out to be the most popular post that I’ve EVER written!  (I’m collecting more great chocolate events and places, so keep sending them in, and expect a follow up “5 More…” in the future.)
Of course, you’re welcome to read all 893 entries (yes, that’s right – 893!) in the Top 5 project, but I’ll handpick some posts that I …read more

It’s All About San Diego

It’s All About San Diego

Growing up in Los Angeles County, I was completely convinced that L.A. was the center of the universe.
What proof did I have?  Everyone on TV looked and sounded like us, unless someone was making fun of them (“Mel, Kiss mah grits“).  Newscasters and actors were taught to speak like us, getting rid of any hint of a southern drawl or “ethnic” diction.  Movies were made in L.A., movie stars lived there.  You only had to watch one Rose Parade to know that everyone wished they lived in L.A.

Then I moved to San Diego County.

Fallen Peace Officers Remembered

Fallen Peace Officers Remembered

Last year, 12 officers died in the line of duty in California, including Oceanside Officer Dan Bessant, who died on December 20.
On Saturday, May 19, these and all other fallen peace officers will be remembered at San Diego County’s 16th Annual Peace Officers’ Run, honoring peace officers who have died in the line of duty.  This 2.5-mile run is being held in conjunction with Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, which was actually May 15 (by proclamation of President John F. Kennedy), as well as California Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, which took place on May 2.
