I can’t think of any lyrics more appropriate to our virtual tour, can you? 

Roam Around the World – That’s our theme this week, so if you need some musical accompaniment on your virtual travels, here it is:

I’ve also pulled together some pictures from the articles submitted, hoping to make your travels a bit more visually enticing.  (I’ve even thrown in a few where they didn’t exist, just for fun.)  I hope these will pique your interest enough to go to the posts for more information about these fascinating places.

This week, Alli Crumley presents 58th Armed Forces Day Parade Pictures,  posted at Chattanooga Is Home.  As she proudly writes,

“Chattanooga has been noted as the only larger city to have an Armed Forces Day parade uninterrupted since the first observance in 1950.”

From Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, Alfa King presents Will it chill? posted at Alfa King Memories.  Just as it’s warming up here in San Diego, it’s cooling down in Mauritius, and sugar cane harvest season has begun.  Read here to learn more about changes affecting this sugar cane industry.

Cesar Gonzalez presents The Beginners Guide to Tango in Buenos Aires posted at Argentina’s Travel Guide.  You might be surprised to learn that the tango in movies and on TV is not the tango you’ll see in Buenos Aires, “the Mecca of all tango dancers.” 

From Mike Bergin, we learn about birding in Central Park when he presents Nashville in New York posted at 10,000 Birds.  He says,

“Spring migration in NYC is phenomenal, even if the local birders are less than friendly.”

Caron Golden presents Foodstuff Miscellany posted at San Diego Foodstuff.  Miscellany is right!  She’s provided tips on where to get good cherries, apricots, and garbanzos in San Diego, a recipe for Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette, and a book review – all in one article! 

In the first of a series of posts documenting her travels around the nation interviewing experts about interior design, Meghan Carter presents Wheeling, WV posted at Ask the Decorator.  Why did she start her travels in Wheeling?  There’s a good reason, but you’ll have to read her article to find out.

Steve Madsen presents Aviation Fun and History in the Pacific Northwest posted at Exit Row Seat.  As he explains,

“For aviation enthusiasts, there is an event or exhibit to visit almost every weekend during the blue sky weekends of May through August.”

If you weren’t into aviation before this, I’ll bet you will be after reading this Top 5 list.

 Kathryn, the “Bay Area’s Most Kissed Music Journalist“ presents San Francisco Live Music Venues: Great American Music Hall posted at San Fran Voice.  As she describes it, 

“This is info on one of the best live music venues in the city and the one that’s been here the longest.”

Johnny Shipley presents 27/04/07 – Why Do We Spend All Our Lives Walking Forwards? posted at Beijing Made Easy! Lost in Beijing.  In this post, we learn a little about Tai Chi, as well as forged money.

Time for a break, as Carole Lane (yours truly) at The San Diego Beat takes you out to the Carlsbad Village Street Faire, for a celebration of shopping to a tune from the Barenaked Ladies.  (You didn’t think I was going to stop at only one song, did you?)

On with the trip.  Mary Jo Manzanares presents Uff Da — It’s Viking Fest posted at The Seattle Traveler.  She says,

“Everyone can be a Viking for a day.” 

Her description of the food will make your mouth water, and she also provides some pronunciation tips - because goodness knows we don’t want to sound like tourists when we say “Poulsbo” and “Uff Da!”

Tamil Nadu, India

Prashanth presents A Day in the Unknown Neighborhood named Tirumalai, but better known as Arahantagiri in Tamil Nadu, India.  This was posted at payaniga, and after reading how many modes of transportation this trip required, you’ll understand why this neighborhood remains unknown.

Next, Stacy presents Afton State Park, Minnesota posted at Rambling Traveler, saying,

 ”Close to St. Paul, Afton State Park in Minnesota is a great place to stretch your legs.”

As you can see, her photos are beautiful too.

Visit Christchurch and spend the night in jail  was posted by Liz Lewis at Christchurch Tour Guide in New Zealand.  She says,

“It might not be your first thought when looking for accommodation in Christchurch, but a night in this jail is not such a bad idea.”

This might well be the only jail I’d pay to visit.

shedwa presents Stoli Hotel Opens in L.A. a small article posted at shedwa (hence the small picture to the right).   Have you ever heard of a temporary hotel?  Only in L.A.!

At Brazil Travel Blog, Tony presents Brazil in pictures: 25 de Março street, São Paulo.  He describes this as a 

“Shopping frenzy…on a Saturday in November, when more than 1 million shoppers walk through the street every day.” 

Wow!  (And I thought the Carlsbad Village Street Faire was busy!)

At the New York Traveler, Mrs. Mecomber presents Fort Stanwix in Rome, NY, giving both a tour and a history lesson.  

“Fort Stanwix is located in Rome, NY. The fort, smack-dab in the middle of New York State, was smack-dab in the middle of the most crucial battle of the American Revolution. This is our adventure to this great American site.”

BW presents 10 Signs You Are In Puerto Rico posted at Visit The Coqui.  This is an amusing little introduction to Puerto Rico’s sights, smells and sounds. 

At This non-American Life, Jul presents Chattanooga reborn, an article detailing the changes that Chattanooga has made through the past 10 years of urban renewal.  If this place is really as beautiful as these photos, and as appealing as the article, Chattanooga is now a must-see destination.

At Pickled Eel, Bruce presents a vivid, somewhat bittersweet description of the day as he leaves Australia in the post entitled Departing Sydney.

jaz presents Walking the Bridge posted at Wicked Winter.  He describes his post as:

“A discussion of the walking and bicycle trail on the newest bridge spanning the Cooper River near the historic Charleston waterfront.”

This is a great piece of travel writing, with just enough history and engineering to make this bridge compelling.

Glennia presents My Kind of Town: Palo Alto posted at The Silent I.  Although Glennia often writes about her travels, she stayed home this week to tell us all about the town she has come to love.

Silicon Valley Blogger presents Proof That Buying A House Is Impossible In Some Local Real Estate Markets posted at The Digerati Life.  You’ll see that

 ”The local housing market at some places, including Palo Alto, CA is crazy as you can see”

Sherrie McCarthy presents Fender Benders Or Stuttgart Is The Land Of Mercedes posted at Confessions of a Wandering Gypsy Princess.  From Germany, she writes,

“Helping my partner move into our new place I caused a fender bender with his grandma’s car.  My welcome back to Stuttgart.”

Michael Fowke presents Exchange Square: Financial shamans put on a show posted at Money is the way, and calling it

 ”A peculiar story from the City of London.”

I really wish that there were pictures or a video to go with this one, as I think I’d have to see it to believe it.
