Boomers! A kid’s paradise

Boomers! A kid’s paradise

First it was Bullwinkle’s, then Family Fun Center, and now it’s Boomer’s.  By whatever name, Boomer’s is the place your kids will beg to visit, and cry about leaving.
There are three Boomer’s in San Diego county – El Cajon, San Diego and Vista, and several more throughout California, two in Florida, and one in New York.
Today, I took my little one to a birthday party at Boomer’s, Vista - for the second time in three months.  Believe me, she’s not complaining.  If you don’t have kids, you’ve probably never been to Boomer’s.  The pizza and birthday cake are certainly not enough to get you there.  (Let’s just …read more

Here Comes the Sun!

Here Comes the Sun!

Hooray!  The sun has come back to San Diego!  It feels like summer, with temperatures in the seventies across the county.

Famous San Diegans

Famous San Diegans

San Diego has an interesting relationship with celebrity.  Although  we live in California and have been the site for over 500 movies and television programs (e.g. Top Gun, Some Like it Hot, Citizen Kane, The Sands of Iwo Jima, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, Traffic, Almost Famous, etc.), we’re not exactly mainstream Hollywood.
We’re still excited when celebrities come to town, and revere them as hometown heroes when they live here.

The Best Places for San Diegans in Love

The Best Places for San Diegans in Love

There’s just nothing more romantic than the ocean, and San Diegans are fortunate to have over seventy miles of coastline to enjoy every day of the year.  Whether you’re watching the waves crash, or floating along in a gently rocking boat; day or night, the ocean is San Diego’s single most romantic venue, and there are nearly endless ways to enjoy it for couples in love.

Schottenheimer Fired!

Schottenheimer Fired!

After taking the division title in two of the last three years, and recording the best record in the NFL this last season (albeit without making it to the Super Bowl), Coach Marty Schottenheimer has been fired.
Wasn’t it just last month that the Chargers offered to extend his contract through 2008?

A Valentine to the Women of UCSD Basketball

A Valentine to the Women of UCSD Basketball

Last night the women of UCSD Basketball triumphed 66-55 over Humboldt State at RIMAC Arena.  This was the eighth straight Tritons win, for an 18-3 season.  They are now tied for #1 in CCAA Standings, alongside Cal State Bakersfield.  Although impressive, this is not the reason for this valentine.

What’s Happening at the Museum of Contemporary Art

I just received the schedule for the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego.  Here’s what you can expect:

→ Morris Louis Now: An American Master Revisited
Morris Louis Now includes 27 canvases produced from 1953 to 1962, and offers a critical re-examination of the essential role Morris played in post-war American art.

What Does it Take to Get Tasered?

What Does it Take to Get Tasered?

This is the burning question that SDSU students are asking.  When 21-year-old Joshua Gandy was told to get off his skateboard yesterday, he got a little mouthy with the campus officer.  Or did he?
If you saw his interview on the news today, you know that Joshua’s speech is rambling and his language is absolutely peppered with expletives.  And I quote:

Westfield Plaza Camino Real

Westfield Plaza Camino Real

I dropped by the Westfield Plaza Camino Real on Tuesday afternoon to pick up a Museum Brochure from Macy’s.  No sooner did I open the door than I walked right smack into the bikini section.  In February?  Really?  Only in California!
What’s new?
There are music videos now showing on monitors throughout Macy’s, and shoppers are stopping in their tracks to watch the more captivating ones.  It’s a little strange, and a bit eerie in a nearly unoccupied store.
