Chinese dragon Happy New Year!  春節Today we begin the Year 4705 on the Chinese calendar.  It’s the Year of the Pig (or Boar), and San Diego is celebrating. 

The San Diego Festival

Next weekend, the 25th Annual Chinese New Year & Cultural Faire will take place in San Diego’s Asian Pacific Thematic Historic District. 

This district was established by a San Diego City Council proclamation on October 13, 1987, and consists of eight city blocks, originally containing twenty structures of historic significance to the contributions of Asian Pacific Americans to the development of downtown San Diego.

San Diego Lucky Lion Dancers This street faire, hosted by the , features , award-winning Chinese Acrobats, Asian Story Theater, children’s activities, martial arts performances, hands-on cultural exhibits, music and dance.  All Martial arts demonstration children are invited to participate in the lantern parades.  A full entertainment schedule can be found .

Festivities take place on Chinese clothing for sale Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Third Avenue at J Street.  Admission is free.
